Many people do not understand the importance of having a kit like this. The plastic piece that is black in color in the photo actually goes into the upper receiver and prevents you from hitting the walls inside the upper receiver and aligns the cleaning rod perfectly with the bore. Also the chamber brushes and mops allow you to get into the chamber and clean out where the bolt lugs engage the barrel. Without a kit like this you are basically fumbling in the dark. And depending of the material of your guide rod you are just scratching your chamber.
